Fatal Crash on Hwy 70/Clydeton Rd

On February 10, 2021, at approx. 145pm, Waverly Police Officers were notified of a police pursuit entering the city limits on Hwy 70 West.  The suspect who was driving a stolen vehicle was being pursued by Carrol County Sheriff’s deputies. He had also rammed another vehicle as the pursuit went through Benton County and was also wanted on outstanding warrants in Carroll County.   As the suspect vehicle entered the Hwy 70/Clydeton Rd. intersection in Waverly, it struck another vehicle, causing the death of a local Waverly couple. The suspect received minor injuries.  The Waverly Police Department is investigating the crash.

The suspect, Tory A. McConahie, Huntingdon, TN, was treated and released from Three Rivers Hospital in Waverly.  McConahie was charged with 2 counts of Vehicular Homicide, Evading Arrest, Reckless Driving, DUI, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Driving on a Revoked License.  He is being held in the Humphreys County Jail under a $1,016,750.00 bond.  Additional charges are pending in Carroll County.  The names of the victims have not been released to allow family notifications to be made.
