Waverly Men Attacked by Dogs
August 25, 2010
The Waverly Police Department responded to Richland Avenue at 11:02 am today concerning a man being attacked by 2 Rottweiler dogs. John L. Mays of Waverly, was walking along the sidewalk when the dogs crossed the street from the yard of 228 Richland Ave. and attacked him. Mays was knocked to the ground and bitten on the legs by the dogs. The dogs returned to the owner’s home after witnesses intervened.
When officers arrived, one of the dogs attacked a second person, Tony Mays of Waverly, who was walking on the sidewalk. Capt. Grant Gillespie used a Taser to stop the second attack. The dogs were captured by Waverly Animal Control. The owner of the dogs, Karen Perkins, was cited for violation of the city’s leash law by allowing the dogs to roam at large. Neither of the attacks appeared to have been provoked.
Both of the victims were transported to Three Rivers Hospital by Pro-Med EMS for treatment and were released this afternoon.
