WPD Receives Highway Safety Grant

The Waverly Police Department has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office under their High Visibility Law Enforcement Campaign.  The grant can be used to purchase equipment used in traffic and DUI enforcement.  The Department has received the grant for the past several years and has used it to purchase new in-car camera systems.  The cameras aid in the prosecution of DUI’s and other criminal cases and have proven invaluable to the department.

“The funding from GHSO has helped make it possible to equip all of our patrol units with state of the art digital camera systems which record to DVD.  It has been a great enhancement to our traffic safety program and prosecution of DUI’s,” according to Captain Grant Gillespie.
