Waverly Police Departments Commitment to Drug Enforcement

Officers rounded up on Wednesday dozens of people accused of selling drugs. Those drugs ranged from meth, marijuana and cocaine to prescription drugs funded through the TennCare system.

All told, 33 people were indicted on charges of dealing drugs after a yearlong undercover investigation brought them down.

”I am overjoyed,” said Tony Ahne with Waverly Police.

Investigators said more than quarter of these suspected drug dealers were you selling TennCare drugs.

No one said much as they were brought into the station, but a least three people confessed to selling the drugs paid for by taxpayers.

”This is hurting everybody. They obviously don’t need the drugs if they are going to sell them,” said Ben Nivens with the Office of the Inspector General.

The 33 suspects face 71 drug charges.

Some of the information uncovered during the investigation has been passed on to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation and the Drug Enforcement Agency for follow-up investigations.

The suspects will go before a judge sometime next week.

The authorities also impounded many of the suspects’ cars to auction off. The proceeds will go to the local government.
