Patrol
Waverly Police Department is a 24-hour full service police agency that serves a community of about 4,000 people.
The Patrol Division is led by Captain Shaun Wilson. The department is staffed by 12 full time Police (Public Safety) Officers. The full spectrum of police services is provided including patrol, investigations, and crime prevention services.
The Patrol Division is responsible for general patrol, traffic enforcement, and response to calls for service in the City of Waverly. The Patrol Division includes the K9 Unit and Special Response Team. All of the police officers are also firefighters (Public Safety Officers). The City of Waverly began integrating law enforcement and the fire service in July of 2004.
All of the Public Safety Officers meet or exceed POST training and certification requirements and receive a minimum of 40 hours of in-service training each year. Ongoing in-service training helps to keep officers abreast of changes in the laws, police procedures, and new law enforcement techniques. Officers have completed specialized schools on a variety of topics including traffic accident investigation, criminal investigation, patrol drug interdiction, hostage negotiation, and investigation of child sexual abuse. All of the Public Safety Officers have completed the Basic Fire Academy and additional fire and rescue related training.
The Waverly Police Department responds to approx. 6,000 calls for service per year.
