Special Response Team
The Waverly Special Response Team was founded in October 2003. The department’s SRT was established to deal with situations in Waverly which require equipment, techniques and training which are beyond the norms for most police officers. SRT is also responsible for resolving situations involving: barricaded armed subjects, hostage taking, recapture of dangerous escapees, riot control, or serving high risk search and arrest warrants when the presence of armed subjects is known or suspected.

The SRT trains an average of eight hours a month on various skills and applications dealing with high-risk environments. Personnel assigned to the SRT also have full-time assignments within the department. Personnel are selected from applicants based on a range of criteria including: physical fitness, firearms proficiency, and supervisory recommendations.
