WPD to Offer S.A.F.E. Program for Women

Officer Joe Parnell recently received his instructor certification from the National Self-Defense Institute.  Parnell is now certified to teach the Self-defense Awareness & Familiarization Exchange (S.A.F.E.) Program.  S.A.F.E. is a two hour program designed to introduce women to basic self-defense familiarization and tactics.  The class emphasizes to women the importance of not being an easy target of violent crime. Traffic Changes for County Anniversary

Several downtown streets will be closed to traffic on Saturday, Oct. 17 due to the Humphreys County 200th Anniversary Celebration. Main Street from Hwy 13 to Maple St. will be closed from 07:00 am until approximately 06:00 pm.  There will be access to First Federal Bank during their business hours from the Maple St. side. Thompson St. will remain closed until approximately 10:00 pm. We recommend using the Hwy 70 bypass to move around town during the event.  Parking will be open on Mill St.

Traffic Light Change

The left turn arrow has been removed from the traffic light at the intersection of US HWY 70/West Main Street westbound.  Please be aware of this change and be careful as you travel through the intersection.  Remember to yield to oncoming traffic when making the turn.

Officers Attend Training

Captain Larry Lescure attended the Southeast Law Enforcement Training Seminar held in Lawrenceburg, TN, June 8-11.  The seminar theme centered on identification and investigation of gangs in rural areas, and the methods to prepare good cases to prosecute them.  There was also a block of instruction by Dr. Henry Lee, world renowned forensics expert.  Captain Lescure is a 20 year veteran of the Waverly Police Department and is currently the Detective and Fire Division Captain.
