The Waverly Police Department regrets to announce that our canine, Axle, died this morning from complications of a heart condition. Axle, who was 9 years old, began his service with the Department in 2004. He was certified in narcotics detection and criminal apprehension and tracking. His handler was Officer David Ross.

The Department of Public Safety received a grant from Fred’s Department Store as part of its Hometown Heroes “Hero Hats” program. The grant of over $300 will be used to purchase equipment for the Police and Fire department. Store Manager Sheilah Johnson presented Chief David Daniel with the grant.
