WPD Receives Highway Safety Grant

The Waverly Police Department has been awarded a $5,000 grant from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office under their High Visibility Law Enforcement Campaign.  The grant can be used to purchase equipment used in traffic and DUI enforcement.  The Department has received the grant for the past several years and has used it to purchase new in-car camera systems.  The cameras aid in the prosecution of DUI’s and other criminal cases and have proven invaluable to the department.  ...

Det. Ahne Attends Training

Detective Tony Ahne attended the 2010 Clandestine Laboratory Investigators Association Conference in Nashville September 13-17.  The Conference is for investigators who are involved in the investigation and cleanup of methamphetamine and other drug labs.  The school focuses primarily on methamphetamine (meth) investigations and included the opportunity for students to work with chemists in the actual manufacture of meth.  The exercise gave investigators hands on experience in the meth...

Officers Attend Street Crimes Training

Officers Jeremy Brooks and Shaun Wilson attended a 3 day Street Crimes Seminar hosted by the Spring Hill Police Department.  The course was put on by John E. Captain Lescure Attends Extrication Training

Captain Larry Lescure attended a 16 hr Advanced Vehicle Extrication school sponsored by the Stewart County and Paris Landing Fire Departments on Sept. 11-12.  The course presented students with advanced rescue scenarios involving multiple patients, multiple vehicles and unique situations. This hands-on course is considered the “next step” above basic extrication. The Department of Public Safety maintains an organizational chart with current assignments and the chain of command.  The chart is organized based on job assignment, so employees may appear in several locations based on their assignment at the time.
