DPS Receives Grant from Fred’s

The Department of Public Safety received a grant from Fred’s Department Store as part of its Hometown Heroes “Hero Hats” program. The grant of over $400 will be used to purchase equipment for the Police and Fire department. Store Manager Sheilah Johnson presented Chief David Daniel with the grant. Session 8 Citizens Police Academy Announced

Citizens Police Academy -Session 8 Session 8 of the Citizen’s Police Academy (CPA) is set to begin Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 6pm.  Chief David Daniel and officers from the Waverly Police Department will conduct the program.  Classes are approximately three hours in length and are held every Tuesday night through March 19.  Topics covered in the course include an overview of the law enforcement profession, criminal law, drug enforcement, patrol, firearms, DUI,...

Halloween Traffic Closures

East Main Street will be closed to thru traffic from Cooley St. (by First Baptist Church) to Fairground Dr. beginning at 5:00 pm until about 8:00 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 31.  The Waverly First Baptist Church will be hosting their Fall Festival street party in the area. Arrest Made in Car Break-ins

The Waverly Police Department has charged Brandon Bland, 18, of Crews Hollow Lane, Waverly, with Theft of Property for his involvement in some recent car burglaries. On July 7 between 11pm and 6am, at least 9 thefts from vehicles were reported in the Fairground Dr., East Main St., and Joe St. areas. The thefts were from unlocked vehicles in private driveways, and items such as car stereos, CD’s, and speakers were reported stolen. Bland was identified as a suspect early in the...
